Marathon Officially Launches on PS5, Xbox, and PC
Marathon Has Arrived
After years of anticipation, Bungie's Marathon is officially live. The extraction shooter launched today across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) with full cross-play and cross-save support at a $39.99 price point.
What's Included at Launch
Season 1, titled "Death is the First Step," delivers a substantial amount of content for day one:
- 7 Runner Shells — Destroyer, Assassin, Recon, Vandal, Thief, Triage, and the unique Rook drop-in role
- 28 Weapons — spanning assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, marksman rifles, LMGs, and more, each with full mod and implant systems
- 3 Launch Zones — Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and a community-unlockable endgame zone: Cryo Archive aboard the UESC Marathon ship
- 6 Factions — CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, Arachne, and Sekiguchi Genetics, each with unique contracts and reward tracks
The Extraction Loop
Marathon pits up to six three-player crews against each other in PvPvE extraction raids on the abandoned colony of Tau Ceti IV. Players control cybernetic mercenaries called Runners, exploring dangerous zones, completing faction contracts, and fighting to extract with valuable loot.
The game supports solo and duo play, though teams of three have a natural advantage. The Rook role offers a unique entry point — joining in-progress lobbies with nothing to lose.
Seasonal Model
Marathon operates on a seasonal model with roughly three-month cycles. Each season resets all gear, loot, faction progress, and player level. Only cosmetics and Codex progress carry over. All new seasonal content is free — no DLC or expansion purchases required.
Ranked mode is confirmed to arrive mid-March, giving competitive players something to grind toward.
What's Next
Season 2, codenamed "Nightfall," is already on the roadmap. It will introduce night raids on Dire Marsh, a new Runner shell, new weapons, and the "Cradle" build customization system.
